Tip # 2
www.Eco-Chico.com
is an informational website aimed at encouraging citizen activism with
emphasis on the local involvement. They focus on topics and events that
nurture the environment as well as our creative capacities to affect
positive change in the world. The website features a local events
calendar and numerous articles relating to topics such as gardening and
health, sustainable building, hemp legalization, and recycling. They
also keep readers up to date on what the’re doing to create change in
our own lives: from creating a wastewater diversion system to buying
and installing solar panels, buying local, organic produce and
composting. They will soon be adding our Green Pages, a directory of
local green-oriented businesses as well as a volunteer section,
featuring many of the great places people can help out in the
community. Questions about the site and informative article donations
are always welcome! You can contact them at contact@eco-chico.com.
Tip # 3
Habitat
for Humanity of Butte County ReStore - a discount building materials
reuse outlet where shoppers can find everything from standard windows
and doors to unusual tiles and rare vintage finds -- all under one roof.
The
ReStore accepts donations of new and saleable, used building materials
such as cabinets, lighting and plumbing fixtures, doors, flooring, and
windows. Some materials are used to build Habitat for Humanity houses.
The rest is sold to the public at 50-75% off the retail price with
proceeds going back to Habitat towards building homes in partnership
with local low-income families.
The ReStore is truly a green
business. They keep thousands of pounds of material out of the local
landfill and extend the life span of thousands of valuable products
that would otherwise be thrown away.
